The "official" system was the VRC-1 and included a jeep mounted (HF) SCR-193 (BC-191 xmtr, BC-312 rec.) and a 12 volt version of the (VHF) SCR-522. Didn't come into use until Normandy and beyond. Hard to believe but up to that time there was no way for the grunts on the ground to communicate directly with the tactical support aircraft flying above them!
