HaHa! I have never made the East Coast MRCA AM net - it starts at 0530
Eastern Daylight Time...OMG. And I don't stay up that late....

The original Clatternet was on Saturday mornings if I recall. When I was
checking in (1985 !) it was on 10,137 Kc but since most of the Ops were up
in the PacNW, that freq became too high for their local NVIS as the seasons
changed and they moved to 7087 and then to 3587 - but I could no longer
hear them in the mornings on 3587.
Propagation predictions per http://www.voacap.com/prediction.html show
100% reliability between the Bay Area and LA with a 5 watt CW (worst case
transmission) signal to a 10 meter high dipole on 40 meters, 1000 local
time. A little worse from Eureka to LA and probably a no-go to Jim in
Fayetteville AR at that time/freq.
That VOACAP prediction software is usually pretty good, it automatically
fetches the local sunspot / ionospheric data to make the calculation for
you.

John - your transmitter sig was spot on - had no problem decoding you guys
with the CV-2455. It is pretty fussy (non-tunable) but works great if
everyone is on (my !) requency. Mark reported that my transmitter was
about 40 cps "off", close enough for a ship this size!

If anyone wants to try experiments, maybe in the mornings, lemme know. I
am usually around with a little notice...

fun stuff - Tim
