Hi Craig - Yep - A good excuse to fire up the Mil gear. I try to go
camping this weekend every year and operate with the DOD stations from the
field. Alex and I will be up in the Sierras this coming weekend and will
attempt to work a bunch of the Military stations (probably on SSB). I
didn't hear any Mil CW stations last year but they may show up....I think
that many (most?) of the participating military stations are actually MARS
stations on-base with ham operators - so CW should be easy for them.
Last year I copied the SECDEF's Armed Forces Day message as transmitted
from Ft Huachuca on RATT - and they sent me a very nice certificate QSL for
my efforts.
We will be up on 5357 KC USB with a PRC-47 more or less continuously
monitoring Saturday and Sunday and also on the 40 meter freqs per the
list. The Mil stations don't seem to use AM at all...
Good fun....
73!
