I managed to stum ble across "Roll Call" fairly early in the first season and watched every episode and even the reruns when they started to show up. They had a website (of course) and encouraged viewers to submit suggestions and ask questions.
I immediately added my Two Cents with something like the following (paraphrased from long ago and far away):
I am a Ham Radio Operator and am the prou d owner of a pair of BC-611 "Walkie-Talkies" - the long, olive drab, handheld radio that we have all seen John Wayne, Audie Murphy, and many other heroes of the silver screen use to communicate from the front lines back to HQ. As my experience with these radios is hobby, rather than real life, I'd like to see an episode about how the WW-2 radios actually operated in those days when compared with today's technology. (I may have ment ioned that John and Audie got much better DX with their rigs than I ever did.)
Not long afterwards, I received a reply (again paraphrased) advising me that I was apparently not alone and that there were a lot of Ham Radio Operators and Veteran WW-2 RTOs that would like to see the same thing. It also indicated that the BC-611 was mentioned in many of the requests. It concluded that they were actively looking into the topic and it would probably be sometime during season two.
I saw the episode when it was shown and thought it was pretty good. I knew they were constrained for time and had a lot of ground to cover and still keep the "Non-Radio" viewers interested, so it was fairly short.
During subsequent seasons, I made a couple more suggestions via the website. As one might expect, as the Gunny's popularity increased the E-Mail replies became automated, and then not at all - other than the "Thank You" pop-up on the site itself.
It never hurts to try!
