Tim -
This Dovetron is a MPC-1000T (Tempest) unit - still has a USCG tag on it.
Jim knows much more about these than I do - there were many differences in
the various models, even those with the same model numbers.
I have at least 5 other types of terminal units to try, all audio units.
Sounds like a TU shoot-out and report is in order.
BTW, I often run polarization diversity with (2) R-390A each on separate
antennas (vertical & dipole) for the AM net. It's fun to watch what
happens...

Hi John - I am not familiar with the Dovetron gear. Was it used by the
military? The few photo's that I have seen - looks like civvy gear.
Sounds like it works very well in comparison. That "50 miles" spec is
interesting - presumably for reliable max groundwave range versus selective
fading issues from skywaves....
With your dual terminal setups maybe you could try some space diversity
with a second receiver & antenna?
In addition to the PRC-47/CV-2455 I also run a second setup with an R-390A
driving a sound card/FLDIGI system for backup. Interesting to watch - I
think the sound card has superior audio filters but sometimes it produces
receive garble when the CV-2455 gets good copy, and vice versa... Probably
due in part to the separate antennas used...
It's all good!
