UPDATE! It was pointed out to me that the frequency I picked is just over the digital sub-band edge. So, we'll QSY 50 kHz lower this evening. We can discuss a better frequency later if that's not an optimum one for any reason.
Updated announcement:
Folks, Tim N6CC and I plan to try another Clatternet tonight at 8:30 PM.
This setup was chosen for best compatibility with the military gear likely to be used on Clatternet.
Mode:
* RTTY, 5 bit Baudot code, 45.45 baud
* 850 Hz shift
* Mark low (this is opposite of normal ham band convention)
Actual transmitted frequencies:
* Mark 3551.575 kHz (+/- QRM in 1 kHz steps)
* Space 3552.425 kHz
Tune a PRC-47 or GRC-106 as follows:
* Indicated freq 3550 kHz. USB, of course.
* Mark tone 1575 Hz
* Space tone 2425 Hz
* Centered around 2000 Hz
For a modern SSB rig with a sound card modem, this setup might work better:
* Indicated freq 3550.5 kHz USB
* Mark tone 1075 Hz
* Space tone 1925 Hz
* Centered around 1500 Hz
A true FSK rig like a GRC-46, GRC-26, etc. would tune to 3551.575 kHz (LOL! Just zero-beat one of the SSB-based rigs on the net!).
I'll be using a Yaesu FT-450D tonight, with a SigaLink USB interface and running fldigi on my Mac. Getting my vintage RTTY gear running is on my long list of to-dos!
