It was an impulse buy! Paul Thekan picked up a BIG motor-generator set at the meet that he's going to use with his sets. I'm told it's very loud, but due to magnetorestrictive (is that the right word?) effects rather than the siren-like blower on the 800-1 dynamotor.
I've considered several approaches, including:
* Modifying a UPS to output 800 Hz. Ray Poularas says he's done this successfully.
* Modifying a solid-state inverter to output 800 Hz. I'm presently leaning towards getting a cheap 24VDC input inverter off eBay and trying to modify it.
* Use a variable frequency drive. I didn't find any with the right combination of input voltage, number of phases, maximum output frequency, and affordability.
* Use an original 800-1 dynamotor. I'm told they nearly double as sirens.
* Use a motor-generator set like the monster that Paul bought. I'm told they're very loud, too.
