[MRCG] Bedbugs?NOW TICKS!

The problem with this disease is that the 'test' is unreliable and frequently returns false positives. For this reason doctors usually treat on the assumption there has been an exposure. The treatment is very low level antibiotics and they wipe out the problem entirely. The risky thing is if you are exposed but are not aware of it. After a year or so the serious and non reversable nerve damage begins.
The good news is that if you are in fact bitten by a tick with Lyme disease (not just any tick) a 'target lesion' will appear after a day or so. This looks exactly like a bullseye with round red and white circles.
I had one of these some years ago and the doctor told me that he gets several people a month concerned about an exposure but that an actual exposure is somewhat rara. I had one and so he called the other doctors over to look at my target leison so they would have a chance to see one in real life. Glad it was on my ankle!

You're right Jay - Lyme is bad stuff. However there is a blood test for it
o see if you have been exposed.

Greetings to the Group,
Ticks are Bad Business! Lime Disease is very difficult to diagnose unless
you have knoledge of exposure prior to seeing a doctor for lethargy, aches
in muscle and joints and various other ills. My elder sister, 2 sisters in
law have had it and I don't think you ever realy get over it.( One sister
in law just had breast cancer therapy and prior Lime may have compromised
her imune system) My father, who was in remisson for throat cancer got Lime
and it wiped out what was left of his imune system and the cancer
resurged.RIP Dad.
If any of you have any suspicion of an actual tick bite, get checked out
as soon as you can. Usually the buggers latch on and suck blood until
bloated and then detach. But you should already know if you have been
bitten by then.
This is no joke. Please take heed, I'd like to see you all next year!

First of All .. THANKS !!! To all those that helped make this possible,
had
a GREAT time, look forward to next year!!
Tim's explanation of ticks makes the most sense. A few days prior to
coming
down to MRCG I had to check out a site on a ridge line between Walnut Creek
and Clayton as a possible location for a data acquisition radio system, the
site was several times up a dirt road and all tall grass land that I had to
walk through. That night I noticed several very nasty welts just above my
ankle on one leg, some nasty thing(s) bit me. The welts are now just
beginning to heal.

Ouch !
I stayed in the Barracks (Bldg 600) and no problems. I have stayed on base
for the past 8 or so MRCG's (in different barracks buildings along the way)
and have not had a problem.
There were however *ticks* in the grassy areas, maybe even just outside the
NCO club. I picked one up while on Guard Hill....With all those Deer
around, not surprising....
I did see a cool Bobcat stalking breakfast by the creek on Friday
AM...(didn't chew on my legs....) Tim
