Old habits die hard. There are some things that probably need to remain “off-air”. I don’t think meet planning should be one of them, it would be nice to have a lot more input.

I've repeatedly suggested moving this meet planning discussion to the list, but it doesn't seem to have happened yet. I agree that there are some things we wouldn't write on the list or say on the air. However, I think that most of this email thread could have been on the list with no issues, as it's mostly just discussion of what to do and when to do it during the meet.

I am in favor of involving more folks in such discussions, or at least giving them an obvious opportunity to involve themselves if they wish. We can still go off list as needed to discuss things in private whenever desired, just like with any other mailing list or online forum.

By the way, I'm happy to see some new blood appearing again. The last couple weeks, a new member living in Arroyo Grande (near SLO), N6CAV if I recall correctly, has signed into the weekly net and indicated that he plans to show up at SLO with his family this year, possibly bringing his radio-equipped M38A1. I've also seen several new subscriptions to the mailing list in the last several weeks. John, Lynn and I receive new membership requests and approve or deny them (always approve so far, because spammers don't seem to have found us yet).

Has anybody noticed how we are not using the 24/7 group mailing list. Not sure why that is, but I find it interesting after all the bitching about the lack of a list that it is rarely used. I think I know why that is for me, but I wonder if everyone else is the same. To me, the big list is kind of like being on the air, you don't say some things on the air that you would in private.

The discussion last year before the meet about all the problems with meet management or lack of, went out to only a few of the hard-core people because there was no list, but I wonder if the same comments would have been sent to all subscribers. I am not advocating for the business meeting, which was attended by only the hard-core people, just pointing out some observations for possible discussion. Tom
