thanks to Jeep about 10 years ago he posted on this list from qth.com a nice unmodified 348 except for the power supply. both the crystal filter and bfo work nicely. I also have a J model unmodified with shock mount and 28 v dynamotor .My Dad got it from G&G radio when he worked there part time. Jeff

Here's my BC-348Q

This is from one of my re-enactment events.    I've always liked dynamotors, and mine has a rebuilt (really, re-lubed....) unit on the inside.    It makes powering the unit in the field simple -- a pair of tractor batteries in series.

I use a 4K:8 ohm matching transformer for the audio -- which I think is just an old line voltage matching tranny from the parts pile.

As can be seen, I have the shock mount.   The correct connector is in the rear.

I think the thing about the BC-348 is that it is a great entry level receiver into the world of military radio collecting. I had one back in the seventies, and it was my first real receiver; way better than the ARC-5 junk I had before it. Lots of coverage, works well and is easy to work on. I took a whole stack of them a couple years ago and built several to give away to friends. One ended up as part of an estate sale on eBay and just sold not too long ago for $375 I have one today as part of my own collection that looks all original with the shock mount but it has an internal AC power supply and normal impedance output transformer. I find them more valuable in a form that you can use as opposed to all original with a dynamotor and high impedance output transformer or at least that's been my experience but did want to return the outside case to all original. The guts of that radio are from one of my first YouTube videos from twenty years ago.
You can see it getting a face transplant in the video from where I did a bunch of them at:

And attached is a picture of that radio, under the Sinclair Dino.  Let's see what some of the others in the group look like.

I used to be a member of the Suffolk County Radio Club in the 1970's. We could sell some goods at the meeting. I used to see unmolested BC-348s for $10. I was, and still am, into solid state so I passed. I probably would have made it solid state anyway.

Prices would be OK if one knew the actual condition, e.g.: recap or not, etc.. The J, N, and Q models seem to bear up better that the others and tubes for them are a bit easier to find. I see but one DM-28 dynamotor listed. If I'd only known back in 1959!! I still use two '348s here and both exhibit 1uv sensitivity on the lower bands. I have little success in using them on the LF bands, however. QRM crud devastating. Anyway... just a thought. Did any one in this area go to Howard County (MD) fest yesterday?
