Hi Walt
This is one special event station that will be cool to work (contact)! As I didn’t see it what HF bands are you planning to be Operating on? This would help in searching for your station.

Good morning,

I wanted to pass along information about a special event station I am helping coordinate for World Giraffe Day.

We will be operating W3G from the Lehigh Valley Zoo in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, June 21, 2026. The station will be set up near the giraffe habitat, home to the zoo?s giraffes, Joshua and Tatu.

Event details:

Call Sign: W3G
Event: World Giraffe Day Special Event Station
Date: Sunday, June 21, 2026
Operating Window: 1400 UTC to 2000 UTC
Location: Lehigh Valley Zoo, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania
Grid Square: FN20gr

The goal of the event is to combine amateur radio, STEM education, public outreach, and giraffe conservation awareness. Zoo visitors will be able to see the station in operation, follow our contacts on a map, and learn how radio can connect people across the country and around the world.

I would appreciate any contacts from MRCA members during the event. We expect to focus mainly on HF voice, depending on propagation. If anyone would like to try to make contact with W3G, please listen for us during the operating window.

Electronic QSL cards will be sent automatically after the event to the email address listed on each contacted station?s QRZ profile. Paper QSL cards will also be available direct to KB3SBC with SASE.

Thanks, and I hope to work some of you on the air.

73,

Walt Skavinsky, KB3SBC
