Done that before. The trick with the reference oscillator is finding the "magic" spot in the tuning coil where the oscillator starts and runs every time. Often it may not be the spot that's absolutely on frequency and may be off by several cycles but at the end of the day that does not have that big an effect on frequency as opposed to a reference that sometimes won't start or stops. 
My procedure is to find the best spot in its tuning for dependability and if that turns out to be too far off tolerance then replace the entire assembly.

With the high fail rate of the frequency standard module, I was wondering if anyone has tried doing an upgrade.
The original oven is a plug in assembly inside the module . I don't think it would be very  difficult to stuff the can with a 
Oxco or better yet, a progrock module . Just add a regulator and LPF and done!

Anybody ?
