The ballast regulator tubes only work when under load. Have done a couple of GRC-9 and BC-1306 sets and for me I just connect them up and go. Generally, the voltages will be less unless someone screws up the box. But unloaded voltages will always be over. Without the regular load, it will show applied voltage.

Subject: [MMRCG] DY-105B testing questions

CAUTION: This email originated from outside of Salisbury University. Please exercise caution when clicking links or opening attachments from external sources.

Hi, I’d like to test and verify that my DY-105B is putting out correct and safe voltages before attempting to power up my GRC-9 with it.

I can trick the dynamotor into starting and can see appropriate HV, but all the low voltage circuits apparently want to see a load, and that load appears to be integral to regulation.

Open circuit, the 1.5v supply shows 24 volts… Not confidence inspiring. Blowing up one 3v flashlight bulb is one too many.

Has anyone come up with test loads that would cause the thing to operate as expected?

Thanks,
Jason WA6BBQ.
