Dave:

I built my own battery out of 10 C cells in series. I tapped the bottom 2 to get the 3 Volts for the 2DF4 final tube's filament. But don't forget the nichrome wire in series with this tap. It drops the battery's 3V down to 2V, plus it prevents a current surge, when you hit the PTT switch, from popping the filament in cold conditions.
