Sixty years ago yesterday, I made my first QSO as a
Novice class Ham license holder. I've written about this a few times on
previous anniversaries, so I won't bore you with a detailed
description. Suffice it to say that my CW CQ (one of several dozen that
day) was answered by Ron VE2AOU and I was thrilled beyond words. I
even received a misaddressed QSL card from him the next week; it helps
to have an Elmer working in the local Post Office.
Since
then, my radio hobby has taken me to engineering school and nearly 50
years of professional work in wired and wireless telecommunications, as
well as in electric utility power and energy. It's been quite a ride.
