In the 1980s I considered joining the Army Reserve and I went to visit a unit close by. They were a Special Forces outfit and I remember seeing TRC-77s there. I don't know if the SF normally used them or if the Army just unloaded them to reserve units since they were obsolete.

They offered me lunch at the mess hall and that meal alone convinced me that I should walk away. Plus I would have had to go to jump school.

TRC-77 Ops: I hate mods (I know, I know) but this problem has drained my battery too many times.

When the radio is switched to XMIT there is no other indication that the HVPS and filaments are powered waiting for a Key closure in QSK/Break-in mode. It draws 2 amps while waiting. So I added a simple LED indicator that shines through an existing panel hole to alert me that I left it in XMIT mode by mistake or accident. Dumb!
