The guardian of the pass band
Indeed, these are the times when many a disorganized, inconsiderate or otherwise ignorant Ham may make an appearance on the bands. Hams with little or no knowledge of established operating modes or calling frequencies, Hams who are inconsiderate of others and
perceived band plans.
But don’t despair! A hero has come forward to set things right, at least on forty meters.
For two years now the Guardian of the pass band has been vigilant in informing those of us who don’t understand that the entire top end of forty is reserved for AM operation and he has worked tirelessly to drive the few of us who don’t understand this from
the pass band.
Mistakenly I have thought maybe the Guardian just had issues with what MMRCG has been doing on Saturday mornings and had assumed that it’s his god given task to drive us interlopers from the band but today was different!
Today I tuned up the Harris for 7296 and heard a weird sound, upon investigation I discovered a POTA station running LSB on 7297 and there he was, Our hero jamming, lecturing the POTA station on how they are in the AM pass band, how they need to get out of
the AM window and just what a useless and annoying individual they were for operating in violation of the guardians dogma.
Some may consider the Guardian as a troll, well he is with his endless non identified transmissions, playing music, sirens and just about anything else he can do to protect the AM pass band but somehow I think this clown feels he may be the only one who can
set the world right like the Long Ranger, protecting the pass band for the defenseless AM stations.
But the ingrates, speaking for myself at least may have a new plan! Perhaps next week we can move to AM also? Most of my radios produce AM by injecting carrier in the USB mode. Maybe we can do the 7296 net in hybrid AM? I know that my radios will copy USB just
fine when your running hybrid AM so those who cant do hybrid AM can still check in without issue.
And a word about our forty meter friend, I suspect he is located in Pennsylvania or maybe eastern Ohio. Anyone else have an idea to who or where our masked hero is located?
