With the ever increasing problems with jamming satellite based navigational systems by unknown protagonists, the old is new again, and systems like LORAN are turning out to be far from obsolete. The more sophisticated satellite  systems that were supposed to be the be-all and end-all in earth navigation are now also proving to be vulnerable to actions by bad actors. This was bound to happen.  A combination of different systems, both surface based and space based are the best approach to counter this new threat. It might also be a good idea to re-introduce teaching non-electrical means of earth navigation, as recent over-reliance on satellite navigational systems and their now proven vulnerabilities have created new challenges for both civilians and the military. In all honesty, the jamming of satellite based navigational systems probably has more to do with effecting accuracy of guidance systems on modern missiles and other ordinance that it does with human navigation on land, sea or by aircraft. Weapons systems have more of a direct effect on the actual bad actors, and those bad actors would certainly have a motive in making weapons systems potentially being used against them to miss their targets.

Related to GPS Jamming.....    I received the following from a friend of mine in the Netherlands on Nov 8th:

"On another note, my newspaper mentioned today that due to GPS jamming issues, three Finnish traditional navigation systems will be resurrected. This might be NDB's."

ON the NDB Reflector, there have been reports listed (with links) about Finnish airlines experiencing GPS jamming over the past year.

Subject: eLORAN question

Hello Everybody,
I am looking into the latest version of LORAN with the goal of installation/operation in an aircraft. The latest iteration is something called eLORAN. It’s an upgrade from LORAN-C ( went out of business in the USA in 2020 ). The reason for it is to provide a backup navigation system in the event that STARLINK and GPS systems run into problems (jamming has already occurred in areas in the Middle East. Some commercial ships  have reported jamming of some GPS systems in and around Lebanon /Israel/ Gaza/ Egypt coming from unknown sources ).  eLORAN is reportedly longer range than amp LORAN-C, and more accurate.
