The stainless pins are indeed spot welded in four places to the .063" aluminum U-shaped subchassis on the bottom of the case proper, Jeep.  I would think they would be difficult to remove cleanly unless you milled the spots down to the case proper with a Bridgeport mill or equivalent.  A chisel will just make a mess of things.  I like John's suggestion, though there are other possibilities depending on how complex/permanent you want to make it.
