Hi Scott - Well I don't think these were intended for the PRC-47. They are only rated for 125 watts and the PRC-47 manual says the power consumption "does not exceed 320 watts" (voice, nominal voltage) even with its low duty cycle. That did not specify "DC or 400 Hz AC" power but the overall consumption would be similar in either case. I'm sure some GI tried to run a PRC-47 in Hi Power (100 watts) briefly at some point with this generator but I think that would not be the design or procurement intention. I dunno..It should run the '47 in the low power setting but even that may be close. The Special Forces "inspection" photo I showed on my post indicates these were certainly used with the GRC-109 in their service. This genny would make perfect sense at SF camps running 400 Hz power for a GRC-109 as a backup system for their comms in 1966/67. Anyone else?Cheers, TimN6CC______________________________________________________________On Thu, Apr 25, 2024 at 11:30 AM scottjohnson1 <[email protected]> wrote:I think the 400 hz version is only for the prc47.Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone-------- Original message --------From: Ray Fantini <[email protected]>Date: 4/25/24 10:32 (GMT-07:00)To: Tim <[email protected]>, [email protected]Subject: Re: [MRCA] [MMRCG] PRC-47 generator
Cool, I always thought it was for the 47 but that other stuff makes much more sense. Anyway it not cheap, think he is talking about wanting $500 for that little genset.

Hi Ray - Those are interesting little generators. A "semi-COTS" design based on a chain saw engine...The Army bought 1531 of them in 1966/67 but I think they were intended for use with the GRC-109 and probably the RS-6 sets at the time. I have powered my sets with one and it does the job just fine. They will power a PRC-47 but probably only in low power mode. Here's a bit of a writeup I did to include this gen with some field experience around here: https://www.n6cc.com/gensets-for-an-grc-109-etc/

Hear is something you don’t see every day, it’s a XLA115/1/400 two cycle Homelite 125-watt 400 cycle generator for the PRC-47, appears to be NOS and never used. It’s not mine but saw this up at Supply Depo X-Ray last night in Delaware. If you are one of those people who are into the PRC-47 this is your opportunity to pick up something that’s not that common. You can contact me directly and I can provide the contact details.
