I mounted my units on a snatch plate and used it fixed or mobile.
Worked fine for local comms. Two photos attached.

The other radios of 1950-1970s are all too big/heavy to go in my suitcase for air travel.  I've got to leave room for at least a few hamfest purchases on the return trip!
