This story makes no pretense of being based on any actual events but is based on a best seller book about two people with a common love of a certain broadcast. From what I've read in reviews the series butchers the book.
Drama is always a problem isn’t it, on one hand you have a desire to make things historically accurate but on the other you are doing a drama, a human story that’s got to have a broad appeal. Between movies, documentaries and multi part series to me it appears that the multipart series is where things fall apart. Although in terms of accuracy moves as of last ten or twenty years have also sucked mightily, anyone else remember the 2001 release of Pearl Harbor? At least in the 1971 Tora, Tora, Tora they had shots and story built around the SCR-270 with what looked like a SCR-270 antenna and shelter.
Remember my old man bitching about “most of the Japanese attacking aircraft were just repainted AT-6 trainers” but you can’t have it all.
At least in “Wind talkers “(2002) they used good copies of TBY radios but that movie also has its issues. But with TV and now Streaming series can’t think of anything accurate, somehow a lot of that stuff falls into the realm of “Hogan’s Heroes” for realism.
I remember that show was really popular with all the Vietnam veterans back when I was a kid, it was already running in syndication at that time but they all loved it. just goes to show that historical accuracy may not be much a factor when it comes to entertainment.
Going back to this Light thing although the use of code, cyphers and pads may be more correct but too much of a chance of most of your audience drifting off to texting or something else why showing that.
The good thing is that today you have a bucket full of good stuff on YouTube, just have to look for it but it’s out there.
