I run a low 60 meter dipole at home and have had decent performance out to about 200 miles or so (give or take a mile). Outside of that, not so great. The center is about 20 feet and then ends are about 6 ft high. I am hoping to try the same antenna arrangement at the reservoir with the 74. ------ Original Message ------ Received: Tue, 12 Sep 2023 03:54:07 PM EDT From: Al Klase <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MRCA] Red Ball Gilbert MRCA Event Gang, See attached for my rant re: the upcoming 60-meter Field Exercise. 73, Fearless Leader On 9/11/2023 4:20 PM, Ray Fantini wrote:Some housecleaning information for the upcoming event MRCA/Gilbert Red Ball ( September 22^nd 23^rd ) We have expanded the 60-meter net! The hope is that this will encourage people back home to take part also. Will have the M-151A1 set up at Beltsville Lake as NCS running a GRC-106 so that will be capable of working the “Backpack” stations and those in the region. Also, an opportunity for the backpack stations to do some long-range communications from the field. NCS will be on 51.0 FM the entire time. We will be sending tone but receiving carrier squelch, least I think I can do that on a RT-524, if not will run open squelch at NCS. What do people think about 144.25 AM? Have a URC-110 that I was keeping on 146.52 FM as a backup to 51.0 but do we want to QSY to 144.25 (AM) and see if there is any interest in operating there? If not, there is always opportunity to do an Ad Hoc pack nets back at the Howell building.
