Hello All……
There comes a time when everything has to come to an end.  Phil and his late brother ran this iconic business for many years and obviously its’ time has come.  Who else is buying this stuff anymore?  Who is sellimg it?  Face it, much of their inventory is headed for scrap or the recycling.
I do not think that FRS is a viable business opportunity today.  Keep your FRS catalogs, supplements and the wonderful stuff we bought from them over the years and the memories of pilgrimages to Lima in your memory.  Let’s wish them all a long happy retirement.

The writing was on the wall when I was there during Hamvention. It appeared to me that things were not going well. I have seen some improvement like the new sales section in the front of the building, eBay and other on line presents but a large part of their inventory was not being turned over and was still in the same place where I saw it ten years ago. Although they did drag some of the back inventory out for this year’s Hamvention.

The state of the building and the general disorder were all indicators of what was coming. All that being said still have to say that there is no other place like it. On scale alone, it’s almost imposable to see it all in one day. With over ten years of visiting during the Hamvention there were still a couple buildings that I had not been thru, and with its demise we will all be poorer for the loss.

Back in 2020 Mendelsons in Dayton closed and had their final auction. I think the biggest difference there is that over the years I saw Mendelsons transform itself from an electronics surplus dealer to a general surplus dealer and in the end a seller of crap no one wanted, at least Fair Radio stayed true to its core and loyal to its customers.

Don’t know yet if we will get the crew together and do one last big road trip to Lima , did see some teletype equipment there I would not mind picking up that was in one of the back warehouse and recall that in another warehouse were pallets of URC-35, R-1051 and the like stacked to the ceiling but the other side of the coin is it will cost hundreds of dollars to set up a trip and take three or four days out of an already full schedule to buy stuff that will be additional to what I already have, but then again for years I have spent a hundred or so dollars at Fair with idea of just wanting to do something to support that business. Maybe it’s time to support the retirement fund.
