I picked up a AN/PRC-74 at the Hamvention, could not resist being it was complete with battery box, antenna and the accessory bag with all the stuff like the long wire and CW key. Like everything else I buy had to disassemble and play with it and discovered it was about 1.3 kHz low on all bands so I popped out the frequency generator and checked that first and it was on 1.750 and did the alignment on that anyway and then pulled the synthesizer and using the manual did the alignment so now everything is on channel.
Next thing will be adapting the battery box to hold down a 9 amp hour
The biggest issue so far is that I need the connector that goes on top of the battery box so I can build a test cable and not have to deal with the battery box when the radio is on the bench. Oddly all the alignment is accomplished with the assemblies removed from the radio and on the bench but still want to build up a power jumper.
Anyone have that plug or a ugly battery box that they can be talked out of? Also looking at J301 on the power supply it appears that pin 5 is the +12 volt input to the radio via F2 and pin 6 only supplies the HV power supply (40 volts) for the PA via F1, has anyone ever used two batteries? One for the PA and one for the radio?
