There apparently was a lot of hearing loss
among Naval personnel that served on battleships. My great uncle Charlie was a plank owner Chief Electricians Mate on the battleship West Virginia during new construction and it’s early years of operation. He had a small disability pension for loss of hearing in one ear as a result of being out on deck when one of it’s big batteries was discharged.
