Ray. what antenna are you using on 60?  for nvis try using a low to the ground 1/2 wave dipole about 20 ft high with a half wave reflector below it 2 ft off the ground or a low inverted vee.  Jeff

FYI Ray, my vertical isn’t very useful on 60m unless my end fed can’t get the northernmost (w1aea) or southernmost stations. Then sometimes it can do a little better. But generally, the vertical is not useful for close-in work and 60m seems to be best for NVIS work. In addition, whatever your noise level is now, a vertical will likely be worse.

For some months now just aint getting any love from sixty meters! Tried different radios and antennas but between the almost constant S6 to S7 background noise on that band and the inability to hear Net Control it’s been rain no game for me. Have these dam Harris Falcons that I am going thru and between the 5022 that’s decided to stop working after I turned it off and the basket full of expensive memory cells that I have replaced just about have had a belly full of them but I do have one set up with a 5020, 125 watt amplifier and the 382 tuner and am thinking that maybe I can set up a thirty foot vertical out in the yard and try running that on sixty and see if life is any better?

Liked Eugene’s sound recordings, allegedly he is working on a super sound distribution system for his shack. I can’t wait to see the video.

Glad you didn’t record my BC-191 on the Old Milrad Net this morning.  It was awful!  Looks like it was due to a loose coax connector (shield side) on the jumper from the transmitter to the wattmeter.  I apologize for torturing everyone’s ears with it. Seems to be all better now.

I made some recordings of some of the participants in today’s net, as best as I could copy them. Not everyone was, unfortunately.  Recordings made in case you want to hear your audio quality at my QTH. All good quality today!

I don’t know if everyone I recorded is on the MRCA list if not hopefully someone can forward this to them
