I have downloaded each of your fine and interesting comments and field proven information in a folder for further study. Although I was looking for a walk-around antenna as an interesting project, in reality I will lean towards wire antennas. A. they work better B. I don't really suppose I would find myself rucking-up with the 897D, real soon. As mentioned, I do have fiberglass mast sections and two 20mm ammo cans full of 292 guys, halyards, stakes, antenna reels, center insulators, etc. Not a one-person deployment scenario, but that's fine. But, will also consider to construct a vertical antenna system. Good project, as I have no more elephants to tether. TNX to all....
