The AB mount also is easily attached to the standard ALICE frame for "mobile" ops. Use hose clamps (painted black of course). Just loosen the clamps for fix base operations.

The AB-1135/PRC mount is an angle iron mount that is driven into the ground by bootheel and has a Prc-10 type of antenna mounting block to accommodate an AT-271 fishing pole antenna. I'm thinking this mount, along with a few radials on the ground, will give you a decent match but won't be very efficient or effective on these low bands. I'm thinking a (very) long wire antenna and a counterpoise wire might be more effective. Think AT-984A/G from the PRC-25.

I have a tactical tricked-out Yaesu FT-897D with an LDG AT-897 tuner. Even have the requisite H-250. I have used it a time or two for Moose and Squirrel with an inverted V in the back-yard. Is there a practical design for a whip that would work on the lower band 80/40/5MHz? I have some rods from a 292 antenna and a folding antenna from a PRC-8,9, or 10. Running the '897D from a 12v battery the power level is about 40 watts at best (vice a solid 100 watts with 13.5V). Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree? A decent counterpoise is always the bugaboo.
