It would appear that my newly acquired receiver is now working OK. After getting clues and pointers, from the group, downloading the book, cleaning switches and making a few adjustment, it now receives. My issues include a base sensitivity of about 10uv. All "functions" appear to work fine. To alleviate the lack of sens., I added a gain adjustable $12 outboard 30db LNA module (Epay). Now, base sens. is measured at .5uv. I also added an outboard Motorola mobile speaker/amp and it sounds great. So, again, I appreciate all the assists I received. Two questions remain.... the S-meter (after adjustment?) is fairly un-responsive. Normal? Sensitivity? Any ideas? I have been admonished NOT to adjust inductor cores as all too many have seen them break apart as they are firmly stuck owing to age. Finally, from a cold start, receiver drifts up a kHz or two then down a bit. Been listening to the ARINC HF SSB aviation freq. and note the above. Pretty good find for truly minimal investment.
