Ok thanks everyone. Looks like the consensus is – if there is indeed a capacitor in that protrusion, it is to block continuity from an accidental touch to a power line.  And if there isn’t one in there, then maybe just to extend it deep enough to work through the armor on an M113.

Chk their DC continuity, I believe the long one has a great big door knob capacitor encapsulated in its base.  I have one just like it that’s broken on it bottom end, and the caps right there.

I believe the second base just had move insulation to protect personal in close proximity from the high voltage rf 

Power rating should be the same

I have seen these AT-1011 bases in two different configurations. Attached are pictures of the two kinds I’ve seen. They both appear to have the same AB-1335/G designation. One has a flat bottom, and the other has a bottom that protrudes below the mounting surface. Does anyone know the reason why these two exist and if there is anything electrically different about them? Power handling? Anything?
