> Will the RF-1310 exciter work by itself on the bench or will it require some form of interlock before you get an output?

Yes. It has to be put into “generator mode” on A18A1 or A18A2 I forget.

>Also, what’s the deal with the four-position meter on the exciter, USB and LSB are easy being they show the audio or maybe ALC level when pushed but the other two positions are dead, going to assume that one is exciter output and the other is amplifier output from the 1110?

Yes USB/LSB are audio input levels. EXC/PA are supposed to show power output level of the exciter and PA. You should focus on getting some indicator on the EXC position. When I tuned up these 1310s I was using an HP power meter. Nominal level is 100mW for CW.

This means that the exciter itself is fine and is working as expected. However, as a system something is not right. Meaning, I suspect, some interlock issue with the amp. This could also be what causes the amp to pop out of operate mode. It could be an interlock issue.

This is the “A” manual, but for your purposes should be fine.

Subject: [HarrisRadio] Harris RF-1110/1310

My latest project has been a RF-1110B amplifier with a RF-1310 exciter. Intend to use it to run teletype if I can get it all working.

First Question:

The keying line control for the amplifier. The exciter has the control for the amplifier and I can switch from AMP OFF to STANDBY without issue and with the performance monitor can see the two HV power supplies come up and the amplifier switch to standby but when I go to OPPERATE will see the amplifier come up for a second but then shut itself down on a DRIVE fault.

If I pump drive from an external source into the amplifier it will come up and make power as long as you keep hitting the OPPERATE button but no love from the exciter.

But all of this only occurs if I switch the amplifier into manual key and nothing happens at all if the three-position function switch is left in NORMAL

Is the keying control for the amplifier developed thru RF drive or by a command from the exciter?

Second question:

Will the RF-1310 exciter work by itself on the bench or will it require some form of interlock before you get an output? Also, what’s the deal with the four-position meter on the exciter, USB and LSB are easy being they show the audio or maybe ALC level when pushed but the other two positions are dead, going to assume that one is exciter output and the other is amplifier output from the 1110?

Oddly the exciter completes and passes its self-test but it also displays a FAUT display too. I do not know if this exciter was originally paired with this amplifier. Is there anything that must be configured in the exciter depending on what its used with?

It would really help if I had access to a RF-1310 exciter manual, anyone know where I can download one?

Attached is a picture of the rack for the amplifier. Once I get this all working thinking of moving my RF-590 over to the rack and have a huge role around transmitter receiver combo.
