With all this talk about Fort Miles and the one time NAVFAC SOSUS and NAVRADSTA and its tropo link thought I would bring up that when we run the Able Archer 83 event next month we will have my M151A1 MUTT on site and will operate using
the special event call W3A for both MMRCG and M&S Nets.
We will also have at least one multiband period correct station located in the barracks at Fort Miles that will be on the air using that call the entire time.
The MUTT is equipped with 51.0 along with both VHF and UHF AM or FM and I will also drag out a couple HF/SSB backpack radios and it would be a great opportunity for others to come out and play radio.
The complex spreads over a large part of the park. One of the main bunkers has been restored and the have the huge costal artillery all restored along with a outside artillery park that includes one of the sixteen-inch guns from the Missouri,
and in their museum they have been promoting that they have just received a section from the Arizona so now they have artifacts from both the beginning of the war in the Pacific and the end of that war.

Not only a NAVFAC SOSUS installation but there was also a NAVRADSTA with a UHF Tropscatter link to the NECPA communications ships off the coast.

Just a reminder that November Sixth and seventh 2021 are this year’s dates for operation able archer 83 special event station W3A.
Ray KA3EKH, Has again secured The Fort Miles site in cape Henlopen seashore state park Delaware. Although it did not directly play a part in able archer 83 it was a pivotal Cold War installation. Fort miles buildings were Known as NAVFAC naval facilities Lewes And was home to a sinus submarine relay station. It’s silently stood watch listening for Soviet boomers transiting the Atlantic.
For information on the operation check out our website at www.ablearcher83.com Also although I know a lot of you don’t use it but Facebook
