[MRCA] On Patrol at Camp Getaway

[mstangelo at comcast.net]

On yesterday's Moose and Squirrel Net N2DH joined us. He occasionally joins in when he is camping at the Sandy Hook campsite which is known as Camp Getaway. Camp Getaway is located in the former Nike Missile Battery Control and RADAR site which is about a mile way from the launch site.

My wife and I usually take a walk in the afternoon so we decided to visit his campsite.

He has an elaborate setup. Besides the battery powered fx-4cr he has a battery powered warm water shower, an electric blanket and a Meshtastic setup to remotely watch his site.

He uses a fx-4cr transceiver which is not a common set. It is a compact SDR transceiver that and do SSB as well as the digital modes and outputs up to 20 watts. Here is a description.

He uses an end fed wire thrown up into a tree, similar to my portable setup when not using the Hustler, He matches it with a ZM-2 Z-match tuner against a radial. Power for all of his contraptions are from LiFePO4 packs.

My wife mentioned that his setup reminds her of my contraptions and took a picture. See attached.

The fx-4cr and tuner are on the table. You can see the antenna wire strung up and the ground under the table. The contraption on the wooden support in the back is the shower. The somber fellow on the left is me.
