I believe a plurality, if not the majority of the US combat deaths in WWII were sustained by the USAAF.

Context, Some consider the B-17 and Strategic bombing a success. Myself I wonder. Think around ten thousand B-17 bombers were built during the war. Out of that number over forty-nine hundred were shot down over Europe alone, not counting ships lost in training and other theaters. Unlike the B-29, the huge early design bombers like the Flying Fortress or Lancaster were not pressurized during flight and were more or less open to the outside extremal environment, including unimageable cold.
Making twenty-five missions to be rotated back to the states was a long shot; Death rates were higher for air crews then foot soldiers.
Think if I were a radioman over Europe at the time I would scream too!
