Thanks, Ray.  You raise a good point regarding DC on the mic line, and it is often an issue with both amateur rigs and commercial two-way radios as they were usually designed for carbon, preamplified, or electret microphones.  
The cable I mentioned is not intended to connect to a computer's internal sound interface - it is an accessory for the ham-oriented USB external sound device (and PTT and CAT interface) known as the Digirig.  The Digirig units are capacitor-coupled on the audio input and output, and so far I've not run into issues with impedance mismatch.  
My homebrew audio interfaces (between PC and rig) always used 600-600 ohm transformers to avoid ground loops, but that has not been an issue so far with the Digirig being an external USB sound device.  There can be troubles, of course, both ground loops and noise from the USB, but there are USB isolators that help deal with that.
