[MRCA] [ARC5] ARC-5 Tuning Cable

I can partially vouch for Speedo shops. Here in Phoenix, Dick’s Speed-o-tach has repaired cable for me in the past (ARN-6, command set, etc.), however, although they have all the swaging dies necessary, they have no source for new parts. I have milled the old cable out of the housing, and they were able to re-swage, but the wall thickness becomes smaller, probably a one-time deal. They do have most of the housings and cables.

They might. The cables are very similar. Or instead of repairing the old speedo cable, they’d just replace it.

Would an “old school” speedometer repair shop have such a tool / method ?

If any have the ARC books, the tool necessary to cut and swage the flex cable looks formidable. The radio shop at Page Airways at DCA actually had on on a back shelf but, by 1965, was no longer used. I think a few here have been able to re-attach the splined end but don't know about the flexible sheath.

In general, was disassembly or maintenance of these cables possible in the field? Has anyone of us (Command Set Hobbyists) ever shortened one successfully?

Seems normal to me. Try pulling the sheath taught , the end should retract in properly.

Hi All
Recently I received several tuning cables and one is rather odd;

The cable looks to be fine and undamaged. Perhaps this particular cable was used for a specific purpose?
