The new 60-meter band will become available on Feb. 13. At that time,
all amateur operations using 2.8 kHz or less bandwidth are authorized
general class and higher licensees on a secondary basis between 5351.5
– 5366.5 kHz. Simultaneously, the old channel centered on 5358.5 kHz
ceases and power anywhere within this range must be limited to 9.15
watts ERP.

Summary of the rules as amended effective Feb. 13:

On the frequencies 5.332, 5.348, 5.373, and 5.405 MHz, radiated power is
limited to no more than 100 W ERP.

In the new 5.3515-5.3665 MHz band, radiated power is limited to no more
than 9.15 W ERP. For the purpose of computing ERP, the transmitter PEP
is multiplied by the antenna gain relative to a half-wave dipole
antenna. A half-wave dipole antenna is presumed to have a gain of 1 (0
dBd). Amateurs using other antennas must maintain in their station
records either the antenna manufacturer's data on the antenna gain or
calculations of the antenna gain.

For all 60 m transmissions, emission bandwidth is limited to 2.8 kHz or
less and Amateurs must not cause harmful interference to, and must
accept interference from, stations authorized by: the United States
(NTIA and FCC) and other nations in the fixed service; and all other
nations in the mobile except aeronautical mobile service. Data or RTTY
emissions in particular must be limited in transmission length so as not
to cause harmful interference.

As before, operators using RTTY and digital modes must be familiar with
offsets in order to stay within the authorized frequencies. There are
many explanations of these requirements in the amateur literature.

The www.arrl.org<http://www.arrl.org> website will soon be updated with the new 60-meter band
information.

NOTE: Remember that we are secondary users of this band. When we were
originally given channels in this band, we were limited to 50 watts PEP.
Afterwards, our power level was increased to 100 watts PEP because we
were "good neighbors". We hope that this will happen once again.
