I Have a friend that was maintaining them at an organizational level in the
late 80s (USMC). He said they sent them to Saudi at the beginning the first
gulf war. PRC-47s and TRC-75s as well. Go figure!

Here is something you don't see every day, this is a PRC-74B that just came
into the shop that was depo overhauled in 1987 with all new accessories,
apparently never issued. Looks like they were maintaining and depo refitting
these things a lot longer then I thought. Been told some were still in use
as late as the early nineties. Do want to try to locate a good looking
battery box for it. The radio and all its assorted stuff was in one box,
including things like a accessory pack and the long wire antennas but no
battery box, not any place for it in the box so assume that somehow the
battery and battery box were shipped separate?

Always amazed by things that show up that have been thru depo level
overhaul, never issued and somehow remained all intact until today. In the
last couple years have had been able to work on a depo fresh KWM-2A, a
AN/PRC-70 and now this AN/PRC-74
