I remember the day, very well!  My wife was in Sâo Paulo waiting for a flight to Santiago. Chile. PA flight cancelled and, owing to the fact she was non-rev, no assistance. At the last second, she got re-booked on Varig. AL got her back to BAL.

I was on the tarmac waiting for Pax at LGA Marine Terminal the day they
took down the last PanAm signs and put up Delta. A sad moment.
