Just won at auction an original manual for the YG-1 Homing Beacon Equipment. The YG-1 was the land based version of the USN YE-1 homing beacon used by USN Aircraft Carriers from the 1930s to about 1960. Museum folks are looking for a USN YE-YG homing beacon, and most don’t even know what the thing looks like. They know about the transmitter disks, and the “Hayrake” antenna, but that’s about it. The idea is to post pictures from the manual online so if folks do happen to stumble on parts to one of these homing beacons, they know what they’re looking at. Increases the chances that at least one beacon can be found and maybe put back together for museum purposes. There are a bunch of various models of the ZB receiver sets floating around, but no homing beacons.
If in anybody’s travels they comes across a WW2 Parachutists Signal Box ( normally mounted by the jump door of aircraft like the C-46/C-47) that they are willing to part with, let me know. I’m working with a local foundation that has a C-47-A that actually still has troops jump from the aircraft, and they don’t have this in their aircraft (yet), and they are looking for one to install.
