I bought a UHF HT-220 kit from Spectronics around '72 or '73. But the
board wasn't broken. It was however a reject. The story I was told that
it was cheaper for Motorola to just build a new board from scratch,
rather that attempt to repair a reject. Spectronics made it clear
the radio was for amateur use only.

I do recall that after that, the big M discovered someone was selling
repaired rejects back into commercial service, so they took steps to
stop that.

Problem with mine was a cracked 1/8W resistor, but I had to remove half
dozen other components to get to it. Radio worked great after that, used
it for the next 20 years or so.
