The TAB transmitter was in use by the Navy until around 1975. I was stationed at NavCommSta Balboa Canal Zone from 74-76. We had three of them. They were replaced by WRT-1’s. The TAB transmitters were tuned using a fluorescent desk lamp tube taped to the transmission line. This is a REAL “This ain’t no crap” sea story.. they were reliable, easy to repair and dependable. I didn’t check but TAB transmitter serial number 1 was replaced in 1975 and crated up and sent to a museum stateside. Who knows…this one may have been PM’d and retuned by this old Radioman..

BTW… special thanks to the volunteers that helped me locate equipment for the CG-11 museum in Seattle. They are restoring the only remaining Coast Guard 83 footer in existence. This 83 was at Normandy… they just took possession of a WW-2 sub chaser and we located almost all the radio equipment for the SC. Only lacking a RAS- receiver stack and a transmitter- but I haven’t identified what TX was used on WW2 Sub Chasers.
