[MRCA] AN/GRR-5 receiver usage (was on restoration)

I've wondered about the employment of this radio as well. Seems it was
designed to be a stand-alone radio with its versatile AC/DC power supply to
permit wide application. So it was maybe intended to be used for any
general purpose, to include monitoring an alert / warning net of some sort
- response not required.
I've always wondered if the specific "Gas Attack" warning description was
one of those "Internet Facts" that can't go away. Seems to be a
way-to-narrow application. Anyway,
FWIW, the 1952 Manual, TM11-295 for the AN/GRR-5, states the following
although it seems this is just a suggested usage (anti aircraft warning
net) and otherwise was non-committal on its intended applications. Digging
through the various Army TO&E documents would reveal which types of units
should have had them - and therefore their intended use in those units.
Dunno
Here integrated with the VHF-FM set in a vehicle per the drawing.
