I have been doing lots of M&S portable in the summer. Last year I was able to work the net with 20 watts. This year propagation is quite poor and I have to use 50-80 watts with my "PRC-857". I do most of my operation from quiet spots at Sandy Hook to be in the spirit of being "on-patrol"; but more importantly the manmade noise level is very low. I can usually hear most everyone calling into the net.
Eugene, I can hear you when yor are testing but apparently you cannot hear me.
These was a discussion of using 40 meters but I suggest trying to find a quite spot and operating from there to be in the spirit of the net.
