Operation Able Archer 83 Special Event Station: Expanded 2024 Edition

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Operation Able Archer 83 Special Event Station 2024. This unique event commemorates the historic Able Archer 83 exercise, a pivotal moment in Cold War history. For more information about Able Archer 83, please visit www.ablearcher83.com.

Call for Volunteers:

We are seeking volunteers to operate special event stations from each call zone. Please note that call zones 0, 3, and 9 are already covered. All call signs will begin with “W” and end with “A.” This is an opportunity to be part of a significant historical commemoration.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

    * QSL Management: Volunteers will handle their own QSL cards (paper or electronic).
    * 1x1 Call Sign: Volunteers will be required to obtain an available 1x1 call sign from 1x1callsigns.org using the event name Operation Able Archer '83.
    * Equipment: We encourage the use of period-correct radio gear to enhance the authenticity of the event.
    * Log Submission: Please submit a copy of all logs to Walt Skavinsky, KB3SBC.
Join Us:

Be a part of this memorable event and help us honor the legacy of the Signals Officers and other Cold War Warriors who took part in Operation Able Archer 83. Your participation will contribute to the success of this special commemoration.

Get Involved:

To volunteer, please contact Walt Skavinsky at kb3sbc at arrl.net. We are looking for people to request, operate, and manage the remaining call signs (W1A, W2A, W4A, W5A, W6A, W7A, and W8A). The primary focus will be the weekend of November 8, 2024, through November 10, 2024, but the entire period for this event is November 2, 2024, through November 16, 2024. This allows a lot of flexibility for operators to get on the air. No one expects you to be on the whole time, just when you can and make a good go of it. All FCC legal modes of operation are welcome, and feel free to be creative, such as deploying “on patrol” or to a historic Cold War site.

Let’s make this event a remarkable tribute to history!

Best regards,
The Able Archer W3A Team

Ray Fantini KA3EKH and Walt Skavinsky KB3SBC
