Ok, so now I know how the default password, how to unlock functions and all that sort of stuff and know that the backup batteries are dead because when I turned the radio on last night everything defaulted to factory password and 1.6 USB. Played around with the radio for a couple hours in different modes and all that sort of stuff and do think the display is way better then what's on the 5020, the new issue is that when I turned the radio off and turned it back on now the operating system refuses to load. Just get a screen full of null characters, no backlight or no response from any controls. Can hear noise in the speaker that sounds a lot like what you hear when the radio defaults to 1.6 MHz
Have been told that if the internal batteries are dead that it may be causing this? Opened the head and looked and there is one LTC-7P in there but was also told that two are additional batteries for the controller card and the ALE card. Just looking what I assume to be the controller card did not see any battery but that card was two boards sandwiched bottom side out and did not take it apart and did not see any additional batteries jumping out at me during a quick look.
Questions:
1 - How many batteries are in the 5022E? where are they?
2 - Are they all LTC-7P batteries
3 - This one is importin; can dead memory batteries cause this? Or did my controller just die?
I pulled a 5020 and swapped that for the 5022E and everything came up and worked without issue. The 5020 has a bad memory cell too but it appears to just live with it. I dumped a lot of money into this radio and for the couple hours that I had it running last night and did like the display and working backlight but beyond that am out fifty bucks for building the new cable and now if it takes three backup batteries that will be around one hundred bucks for that, starting to dislike computer-controlled radios and know why I like my old URC-94 so much.
Attaching a couple pictures so you can see what cards are installed and what I have been working on.
