TV Magic! Yes, I can see the data from the radio all day long but if I try to push data onto the bus the line driver in the head kills it. Was thinking of how to work around that. Interesting thing is you can do weird stuff that's completely unnatural. Like you can provide the 24 volts to the head and send and receive data from it disconnected from a radio. Have not played around with the 5020 head and may do that tonight being that one works but suspect that I can teach the terminal to act as a head or a radio to a disembodied head!
Just finished the box yesterday afternoon and shot the video last night so not had enough time to play around with all the possibilities yet. Only had enough time to find that the 5022 head has both +15 and 5 volt supplies, working processor clock and that the reset bus is low. Just why its not doing anything is still something I cannot explain, going to feel like a complete rube if once I get the new batteries and that fixes it.

Very nice job, Ray! However, I have a question about the RS232. To watch the flow of data from the head (TX on the head), I see no problem paralleling the exciter RS232-RX with a PC's RS32-RX because both are high impedance. However, the video shows you attaching 3 wires for the DE9 connector. I think paralleling two devices' TX signal pin could be problematic as one might be in space while the other is in mark (-12V and +12V paralleled). Unless the head is performing ACKs back to the exciter, I think I would only connect ground and RX pins from your terminal to the test jig at any one time. Unless I've misunderstood.

Just did a YouTube video of the break out box and ways it can be used with the Harris Falcon three series radios, you can see it at:

Been working on more and more of these things so decided to start building test equipment to go with them.
