[MRCA] Fw: [Milsurplus] Wanted: ARC-5 transmitter & receiver racks

The MT-65/ARC-5 is the shock mount for the 3 receiver MT-64/ARC-5 radio rack. The MT-70/ARC-5 is the shock mount for the 2 transmitter MT-71/ARC-5 radio rack. These shock mounts are extremely hard to find, as are really any of the ARC-5 or SCR-274 shock mounts. Most shock mounts of any kind for WW2 aircraft were scrapped with the aircraft when they went to the bone yard. Your best bet is probably to have them made.

The folks putting the electronics together are more experienced than I am in the different "flavors" of the so-called "ARC-5" equipment sets. They specifically said they needed Navy racks & thus they used the ARC-5 name. They have a library full of original manuals & as the saying goes, "this is not their first rodeo." They're really dedicated to doing it right. They asked me to ask around because I'm sometimes in circles of radio/electronic buffs that they don't reach.

>> What specific sets and control boxes are being sought? Are you using the term “ARC-5 “ in a generic sense ( which could mean AN/ARC-5 components OR SCR-274-N radio components”. Just asking for ARC-5 related items is being a bit too broad. You stand a good chance of winding up with a bunch of unrelated radios that are models no Ham operator can use, or perhaps models that would normally be of use but have been so heavily modified by past Hams as to require major restoration just to give the correct cosmetic appearance for your aircraft. More research needs to be made by the folks doing the aircraft restoration to come up with the specific equipment they are looking for. They need to get some manuals and do some homework. Research is the majority of the work done in any restoration work. Prevents money being spent on unneeded items or the gathering of donations that are of little if any use to the project at hand.

>>> The National Museum of WWII Aviation & WestPac warbird restorations is looking for a Navy (ARC-5) 2 position transmitter and a 3-position receiver rack. It's my understanding those parts are designated MT-70 & MT-65, respectively.
