[MRCA] End-Fed Half-Wave

I am a real newcomer when it comes to end feds, but I am newly converted. Many years ago at Gilbert, I saw Al N3FRQ use an end-fed with his PRC-104 with great results and I noticed the improved simplicity of putting one up. What really convinced me was when I saw Dale KW1I use an end-fed at our annual High Point excursion. Dale is the king of getting dipoles into trees, and when I saw him with the end-fed, I realized I need to pay attention and give them serious consideration.

I just recently installed one for 60m for my home QTH. A real pleasure to install. Just attached the balun on the house and ran the rest out to a tree. The results have been excellent on 60m. I think for portable operation these should be given very serious consideration given the simplicity to get one up and they do seem to work FB.

I loaded a fishing reel with flex antenna wire. The wire is marked with solder tabs at several different lengths for the lower HF bands. When adjusting the length for a match I simply either reel in wire or let the wire out.

Gang,

Over the years I've been really happy with the end-fed antenna I use with my PRC-104 HF packset. I currently find myself helping a friend put one together. Things got out of hand, and I threw together a presentation. (attached)

Please let me know what you think, and what your experiences are with similar antennas on particular radios.

Al
